Disaster! My Samsung, counter-depth, French Door refrigerator is still on backorder! It was supposed to be in the warehouses again this week, but yesterday I got an email telling me it’s on backorder until mid-June! This renovation is supposed to be done before the end of May.
What’s going on, Samsung? Your customer service didn’t seem to know. I don’t know why their agent thought she could surf through the Samsung website better than I could, myself. Yes, that is the extent of their customer service.
I got way more information from an appliance store guy in Illinois. (It’s a long boring story of internet surfing.) The important thing is that he told me that Samsung is moving its factory from Korea to China and Mexico, and it’s taking longer than expected to get the production line going. Thanks Illinois appliance guy! If I lived in Illinois I would definitely buy appliances from you.
Since I live in Virginia, I have a more limited set of options. I could just wait until June, though there is no guarantee that the model I want will be available then. There is a similar Samsung french door refrigerator that’s 30 inches deep, so not counter depth. This one seems to be more readily available, but it will stick out from the cabinetry, and that isn’t as neat a look. I could also abandon Samsung for Fisher & Paykel, which offers a counter depth bottom freezer refrigerator. But it’s more expensive, and it’s not French door.
I can’t decide what to do! Please help by voting. Here’s a head to head match up of the Samsung and Fisher and Paykel:
but what if the answer i want isn’t there!!!!
[ ] look into LG counter depth fridges
[ ] drive to another state to buy the fridge you want or have someone on the NET ship it.
If you get the 30 inch depth every time you look at it you are going to be angry (i would be). For some reason i feel like you even hesitating means that you will too. In addition, My problem with some non french door fridges is that the freezer MUST MUST MUST pull out straight. If its a normal swing door i want to hurt people. I don’t know how the door on your alternate works or i just didn’t see it on the site, but it’s pretty.
We have a french door samsung in the office (no ice on the door… deal breaker), but i used to think they were perfect…they can annoy. I would also advise really really thinking about the type of space french doors offer and hinder. The super attractive party tray thing that you can put idk party platters on or a pizza can only be opened when both french doors are open. It might be stupid that it annoys me, but it does. Another thing is that the shelve layout here in the office really cuts off vertical space. Like milk must go on the door and a 22oz beer must be twisted around when putting it away so it can stand up straight. That doesn’t mean that the layout couldn’t be put another way at home, its just that these fridges seem to offer different types of space than a standard fridge.
Think of it this way, now is the perfect time to rethink every decision you have made!
I’m kidding, but good luck!

Hi Eva — Everybody I know already reads this home improvement blog, but just in case you weren’t aware of it… YoungHouseLove.com Read through the archives for help on specific projects you’re working on. They are very creative and frugal. Good luck with the fridge dilemma — i say wait until mid-June (that’s my dream fridge!)

That’s funny! I just stumbled upon that blog last week. They have a great console table! I will go back and read the rest of the blog. I need all the tips I can get. Thanks for the encouragement on the fridge. I hope I can get it!

Thanks!!! This is very useful, especially about the beer….
I COMPLETELY agree about the pull out freezer. F&P has a cheaper fridge that doesn’t have the pull out, and that is a no-go.
One of the problems with my space, I should have noted, is that most counter-depth fridges are 36in wide. My space can only accomodate 33 inches. So this eliminates most other counter-depth options.
